How can I become a member and what is the process?

What are the benefits of membership?

• Voting Privileges (for full members)
• Online and print communication exclusive to members
• Registration and participation privileges to HMC events or events sanctioned by HMC
• Receive information about and have access to international handbell events such as the International Handbell Symposium
• Receive information and be eligible to apply for HMC competitions, contests, bursaries or awards, including the Carol Petrie Award

How is HMC governed?

It is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of a Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and at least 2 Directors-at-Large to a maximum total of 12 Board members (including Past-Chair, Chair-Elect, Membership Secretary).

When is the Annual General Meeting?

The AGM’s dates are yet to be determined, and will be the job of our first Board of Directors to decide. All members will be notified at least 30 days prior to the meeting, as specified in the HMC Bylaws.

When are the Board of Directors elections held?

The last Board of Directors election was October 2023.

When (and where) will the next Ringing Link be?

Historically Handbell Guilds of Canada held Ringing Link every three years. The last one was held in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 2014. As HGC was preparing to host the International Handbell Symposium in 2016, Ringing Link was postponed. Looking forward, it is the intent of HMC to hold a national handbell event. 

How can I volunteer?

Become HMC’s marketing star by:

• Telling other ringers you know about HMC
• Organizing a national event
• Volunteering at an HMC sanctioned event
• Sharing handbell information on our social media sites
• Sharing your skills with the HMC Board or any Committee that interests you
• Serving as a workshop clinician
